It would be neat to have a WarpStock in/near Atlantic City New Jersey. There is an airport there plus things to do and see in AC. Are there any other OS/2-eCS users in New Jersey?
There are indeed users at least close by. AC is certainly a thought, but I don't know about hotel costs there (while we had a summer house only a few miles away when I was growing up, my last real trip to AC back in the mid-80's was only a day trip, so I haven't had the occasion to stay there since the casinos came to town).
Tom, if you have the ability to investigate this, please feel free to assemble a team and put in a bid for 2007.
I will get lots of informaton from the hotels in Atlantic City, NJ. I do not know about the getting a group together since I am not familiar with anyone in the area that uses OS/2 or eCS.
It (assembling a team) can be done without having someone in that particular area (we did it with Hershey last year). I would perhaps make some inquiries in the usual places (here, Warpstock-public, OS2World, eComStation forums, etc.), and then put together a few people who you believe would be reliable and capable of handling the tasks involved in putting on an event. Make some hotel inquiries, and compile a projection of costs vs registration revenue, and prepare a bid for the Board to consider.
It would be worth - at least - checking out. Thank you for the information.

There is an airport at Atlantic City.
I'd be interested to see how the cost of flights there compares to other airports on the East Coast.
Thank would make for an interesting comparison.
I wonder if the hotel rates would be lower since there are casinos there too.

Here is a site with hotel rates in AC, NJ.

They seem to have group rates(?).

I contacted them about reserving rooms for a small convention. I gave them the url of this site.
Atlantic City New Jersey makes more sense than Princeton Since it is closer to a semi-major airport; one that the FAA is hoping to use for overflow from the other major aiports (Newark and Laguardia). The rates seem to be lower since it is a 'gambling town' and there is much to do there.
I will look into AC NJ for more detailed information.
I found an OS/2-Linux Users group in New Jersey; northeastern NJ. The New Jersey Linux & OS/2 User Group. The only way to contact them is by attending a meeting. I will try to get to one.
"Meetings
We are meeting in Hackensack, NJ.
The James E. Hanson Building
235 Moore Street.
Corner of Salem and Moore between Main and River
Our meetings start at 7:00 PM on the last Wednesday of every month except our November and December holiday schedule, when we move to the first Wednesday of the following month. "
There was mention of combining with other groups to make a larger convention?
That's an interesting group. If they are indeed still active, this Wednesday will be your chance. Think you can make it?
I will consider it. I think it is about an hours drive from where I live. I will check a site like mapquest to see how far it is from where I live. I might have to see if I can get to their May meeting instead.

Here are two replies from the Ramada in AC NJ.
I posted my 'bid' for the Atlantic City New Jersey location for the 2007 Warpstock. It might not be perfect but at least I got it in.
I am hoping others have put in a bid. I hate to be the only one bidding a location.
The convention room is not available on Sunday the 28th of October. I had called for convention room rates and was told this. Even if I had called earlier (I called on 10-09-2007), it might not have available since I was not actually booking the rooms.

Use the convention center 25, 26 and 27 but only use the banquet hall on 28th?
I will check other hotels in AC NJ.
There is only three meeting / convention rooms at this hotel - Ramada. One is booked for the 28th of October. I will check for other hotels in the AC NJ area. It might be too late to have the Warpstock convention in AC NJ.
More bids from hotels in Atlantic City. I will be getting information from Sheraton and Ramada.
I think I am in over my head. I regret sending a bid. I did not realize how much work it would be and how I am insufficient to do the job.
My bid to have Warpstock in AC NJ/Sheraton was rejected due to the high cost of the hotel.
Does this mean there will be no Warpstock this year or will it be in another location?

"Remember, you are under no obligation and you may be receiving more hotel bids in the future as long as you leave your request open for hotel bidding.

Upon reviewing the hotel information/pictures provided on the site, if a hotel bid matches what you are looking for or you have questions for the hotel of choice, you will then need to contact the hotel by clicking the "Contact Hotel" button next to the bid in order to exchange contact information with the hotel and qualify for this special rate.
Note: Contacting a hotel does not require you to stay at the hotel or confirm your reservation. Contacting a hotel gives you the contact information of the person placing this rate as a "Bid", so you may contact them to finalize the reservation or ask questions.
In the future, if you would rather not receive these emails, then log into your account and choose "Account Settings". On this page you have the option to disable these bid notification emails.

Another bid; more affordable/within budget.
I will try again next year. I have - almost - a whole year to work on it.
And you have the experience of going through the process, Tom. Don't wait, though; if you can come up with a compelling bid before Warpstock this year, it would please us no end to be able to announce the location for Warpstock 2008 during this year's event (of course, we'd need a few bids lined up to be fair).
I will do my best to get it done by then. Having it done by then will give every one extra time to prepare for it. I can write letters to different places instead of just sending e-mails. I can explain what is needed in more detail too.
PS Due to unexpected expenses, I will not be going to this years Warpstock. No matter where it is next year, I will try to attend it.
It would be great to also give advance notice to anyone who wants to hold Warpstock in their area so they can also have extra time to prepare for next years Warpstock.
Sorry you won't be able to make it this year...
Anyone is welcome to make a bid submission for any year's event at any time. We simply try to nudge people at a certain point during the year if we feel that we haven't received sufficient response to be able to make a decision.
Please feel free to submit a bid anytime you have a good proposal together, Tom!
I apologize for not giving any information on my Warpstock bid for NJ in time for this years convention. I hope there was a lot attendees.
I will try to get something completed by the end of this year. More time to work on it.
Here is the results from getting Hotel Planner for October 2008 in Atlantic City.
Here is another listing from Hotel Planner for Atlantic City New Jersey.
Sorry to miss you at Warpstock. It was a good gathering, and I think things are looking up in the OS/2 world.
I can't read your posting from the Hotel Planner, even though I have a valid login. The important fields for each hotel say [hidden].
I think it would be great to have Warpstock 2008 in New Jersey.
The best thing you can do is find three average sized meeting rooms, with a price for a Saturday and Sunday all day, and post them here.
Thanks for the suggestion. I will check it out.

When I ask about having a convention at their hotel, I try to mention all that goes on at a WarpStock event. I will sending a letter to them with details about what we need.
I just received information on $50 per night at Atlantic City New Jersey.
Here is the Hotel Planner information. I hope you can see it.
I also posted the information at the WarpStock Public group at Yahoo.
Hi Big Warp Guy,
I'm letting you know I'm planning to submit a bid for Santa Cruz, California. If you want to be in the running, you'd better put together a bid for Atlantic City ASAP.
You've done a lot of work so far. I'm urging you to complete your bid and submit it.
Neil
My internet access has been down for about three/four weeks. I will work on submitting one for Atlantic City New Jersey.
"All bids must be received on or before MARCH 15, 2008 by e-mail to:
bids@warpstock.org. Only bids received at this e-mail address will be
considered."
My internet access is back up. I will do my best to submit Atlantic City New Jersey as the next possible location for WarpStock.
I am working on submitting a bid for Atlantic City New Jersey. It might not be perfect but I will submit something.
I was told that it is more than one person can handle. I totally agree. I was told that is the reason that AC NJ was not chosen. It is more than I can do alone. I will not bid on another Warpstock event unless I am bidding with a group. I do not see that happening.
It must be nice to meet with other OS/2-eCS users on a regular basis (regular like in a monthly basis and not including Warpstock).
I think Santa Cruz California is a great place. I hope I can make it to that event. I have family that live in central California.
I will suggest different locations in hopes that there enough OS/2-eCS users in that area to do it but I will not bid on a location unless I am able to find help in doing one.
